DAVID MISCAVIGE - HISTORICAL EVENT OF 1995

MR. DAVID MISCAVIGE, GUEST SPEAKER
AT THE GRAND OPENING OF THE
FOUNDING CHURCH IN WASHINGTON D.C.
~ Part 2 ~

THE FOUNDING CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY October 21st, 1995
marked the grand opening of the Founding Church
of Washington, DC's new home in the magnificently
restored landmark, Fraser Mansion.

The celebration began with the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
It was appropriate that Mr. David Miscavige,
Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center,
as the highest ecclesiastical official of the Scientology religion,
opened and dedicated the new Founding Church to L. Ron Hubbard.

Mr. David Miscavige’s opening address continued …

In fact, it was just a few blocks away from Fraser Mansion — on Dupont Circle — where L. Ron Hubbard wrote the very first manuscript of his discoveries: Dianetics: The Original Thesis, known today as The Dynamics of Life.

But even that was not the most significant association with the city, because it was Washington, DC where L. Ron Hubbard established the Founding Church of Scientology, in 1955.

It was a pivotal time, not only in the history of our religion, but in the history of the United States and mankind as a whole. The mid-1950s were, after all, the high-water mark of the Cold War, with unrestrained nuclear testing, seriously mounting international tensions and real political oppression right here in the United States. And if one ever wondered who turned out the lights on this rather dark period, it was
also in 1955 that the agents for the American Psychiatric Association met on Capitol Hill to ram home the infamous Siberia Bill, calling for a secret concentration camp in the wastes of Alaska.

It was in the face of all this that L. Ron Hubbard arrived in June 1955, to establish the Founding Church, and thus effectively place Scientology on national communication lines.

And so, this organization, the Founding Church of our religion truly became the critical line between barbarism and a new civilization.

With the technology for the betterment of all mankind came so much of what we take for granted today. For example:

· The first Publications Organization was established in Silver Springs, Maryland, and this became the site for the first publication and international dissemination of Mr. Hubbard’s materials.
· It was here that the first Hubbard Guidance Center and first Scientology Academy were established.
· It was here that the first certification of Scientology auditors occurred.
· It was also the Founding Church where L. Ron Hubbard, as an ordained minister, conducted the first marriage and christening ceremonies.

And it was also here that Mr. Hubbard, as the leader of a new and dynamic religious movement, knocked that Siberia Bill right out of the ring — inflicting a blow they would never forget.

In addition to serving as this organization’s Executive Director for four years, L. Ron Hubbard authored nine books, including the first book of Scientology — The Fundamentals of Thought. Then there were the lectures from this period, comprising over twenty-five Congresses, Advanced Clinical Courses and Auditor Conferences — totaling more than 700 lectures in all.

Yes, Washington, DC is the site of major and very significant Scientology breakthroughs.

David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board Religious Technology CenterMr. David Miscavige:

It was November of 1923, when L. Ron Hubbard first moved to Washington, at the age of twelve. A few months later, he was not only America’s youngest Eagle Scout, but was shaking hands with none other than President Calvin Coolidge on the steps of the White House. It is also here that L. Ron Hubbard took his first steps into Terra Incognita with his good friend — Commander Snake Thompson.

The fact is, Washington, D.C. was the location of many significant events in L. Ron Hubbard’s life. It was from here that he organized his first expedition into the Caribbean. It was from here that L. Ron Hubbard published his first short story. But even more importantly, it was here that L. Ron Hubbard first calculated the capacity of human memory, establishing in scientific terms that the brain simply did not have enough cells to retain all human memory — and that there had to be more to the mind.

All that was just the beginning of a long and illustrious association with the United States capitol. This city was not only very dear to L. Ron Hubbard’s heart, it has an integral place in the history of our religion. In addition to early research he conducted while attending George Washington University, it was also here that L. Ron Hubbard tested his Dianetics techniques on numerous cases, and lectured at Saint Elizabeth’s hospital.

DAVID MISCAVIGE EXTENDS VOLUNTEER MINISTERS CAMPAIGN ACROSS EVERY CONTINENT

At the grand opening of one of the newly renovated Scientology churches, as a guest of honor, Mr. David Miscavige spoke of the activities of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, “They are seen everywhere, in nations across the globe, bringing effective solutions before it is too late. Constantly visiting new communities to offer help with everything from marital difficulties, to tutoring of children, to providing counseling for the lonely.

“And it truly does extend across every continent of Earth. For as of today, our Cavalcade has traveled through 54 countries: from Copenhagen, to Stockholm, and across England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Mexico, not to mention from coast to coast across the United States and, of course, right here in New York. While in sheer numbers, today our Volunteer Minister corps exceeds sixty thousand and they have further provided almost three million hours of counseling. And that’s how, and why, just since 9/11, our VMs have brought personal aid, one on one, to over 1.7 million people.

Mr. David Miscavige continued, “So, yes, when it comes to helping those most in need, we not only know we can help, we are DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.”
